ABOUT

Pianist, composer and humanist, Josep Montserrat was born in Manresa in 1992 and started to play the piano in a self-taught way, finding in the composition his main means of expression and in the interpretation his source of inspiration.

At the age of eighteen, he entered in the last year of the professional degree course at the Manresa Conservatory, allowing him to enter at the Conservatory of Liceu in
Barcelona two years later. In this center, he completed his Higher Degree in 2016 and in his second year of studies was awarded with the scholarship "Jóvenes promesas" from the Ferrer-Salat music foundation to study composition.

During his training he has received advice and classes from teachers such as Alba Ventura, Michael Wagemans, Jose Enrique Bagaria, Elizabeth Wolff, as well as master classes by Josep Colom, Dina Yoffe, Akiko Ebi, Inesa Sinkevych, among others.

In his concerts he alternates works by classical composers such as Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt and Godowsky, composers with whom he feels a deep admiration, with their own compositions and improvisations.

Being his own compositions classical and tonal, in each work there is a search for evocative elements, dreams and emotions that merge in each work recreating simplicity within the musical virtuosity.

During his career as a composer he has written more than 40 works, most of them for piano, chamber music, choral and symphonic orchestra, being the most appreciated by the public the preludes for piano in all tonalities Ops. 12 and the seven pieces for piano Ops. 7.
